Serendipity Alpacas was established in 1995 with the purchase of our first animal, a multi coloured female.
The fibre from the alpaca has become synonymous with fine, high quality wool used in the fashion world, and for good reason – the fibre is one of the warmest, softess and lightest fibres known in the animal kingdom.
Since ancient times the Andean peoples have been using alpaca for protection against the extreme highland climatic conditions.
They discovered in the alpaca wool the best attributes to create clothing that is soft warm and light.
Technically a hair, the fiber is partially hollow, with less scale formation than sheep’s wool. It is these characteristics that give alpaca these wonderful qualities.
Alpaca wool is the only natural fiber from animals that comes in such an array of colours, in fact over 20 recognized colours.
Serendipity Alpacas evolved from small scale breeding of the animals to retailing beautiful products made from alpaca ranging from the yarns to knitted garments.
